Feral Freedom is a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Program. TNR is the most effective method for controlling feral cat population growth. Using this technique, community/feral cats living outside are trapped, spayed/neutered, ear tipped (the universal symbol of a sterilized cat), and then returned to their outdoor home. To date, the Feral Freedom program has saved approximately 30,000 cats from being euthanized in the city shelters. That means there are a lot of feral cats that come through our doors every day- and we need your help! The Cat Care Assistant helps the team process incoming feral cats (in cages) for spay/neuter surgery. This is a physical job and volunteers must be able to lift 10 pounds and able to remain active for the duration of the shift. This position is not suitable for pregnant women.
FCNMHP is one of the largest spay and neuter clinics in the country! We see on average 200 clients a day in our veterinary clinic, accumulating an exorbitant amount of laundry. It takes a lot of manpower to keep our linens clean and sterile for surgeries. When you assist with this very important job, it frees up our busy staff. The maintenance portion of this job includes tasks such as cleaning feral cat cages- another high-volume task that would take staff away from direct-care clinic duties.
